In 2004 and 2005 Jayne and I built these wooden kayaks (below) from kits purchased from CLC in Annapolis Md. Building time was approximately 40 hours; finishing can vary depending on how involved one wants to get. They are still in use today. We highly recommend CLC boats.
The first five images in this slide show are of a Rhodes Robin we bought for a few hundred dollars. It was a sweet and rewarding project bringing the wood back to life. The next series of images are of a Beetle Cat which we bought from friends of my parents, who bought it from my mother when she could no longer sail. It is the boat I grew up sailing off Cape Cod as a boy. When we got it, it had been sitting in a barn, disintegrating. The restoration was a joint effort, with Jayne doing most of the cosmetic work, I repairing the bones and ribs, and the new owners finished what we chose not to do.
